Behr's Mermaid Treasure

Ta-da!

It turned out much better than I had hoped and I have to say that I am quite proud of myself!

I didn't do a proper job of painting it. I really should have sanded and primed the cabinets before painting but the primer we had was old (and dried solid) and I was anxious to get started so I applied a lot of coat of paint and hoped that it sticks. If they were cabinets to the kitchen or the other bathrooms (that actually gets used daily) I would have put forth the extra effort. This bathroom doesn't get a lot of use so I think I'll be okay.

It's not completely done. I still have to level out the doors so that they're even and I would also love to put some pretty knobs on there. But, I'm excited that it's turquoise and I feel so accomplished and inspired I'm already thinking about what color to paint the other cabinets. I'm thinking gray for my bathroom... maybe a light shade of yellow?

And the Band Begins to Play...

I have a project.

I have decided to redo our half bath! It's a tiny, tiny little space so it's hard to take pictures inside but here's a glimpse of what it looks like now.

I plan on:
Painting the walls
Painting the cabinets
Replacing the mirror
Replacing the light fixutre
Replacing the towel rack
Installing the toilet paper holder
Hanging up some pictures or something
Replacing the flooring

Shouldn't take long to do, right?

Personally, I like the fake parquet flooring and had the previous owner installed the vinyl correctly we probably wouldn't have to change it. We were originally thinking of installing tiles but now I think we'll just save some money and extend the laminate into the bath. We definitely have enough left over so we'll just have to pay for the labor.

As for the theme, I still don't know... Though, just yesterday I was thinking I want the bathroom to look like Yellow Submarine threw up in there.

I'm just classy like that.

You are Welcome Mother Nature!

Ta-Da!

I made some reusable cloth napkins from old white t's. Apparently, Michael and I are messy eaters and we had a stack of white shirts with stains that just wouldn't come out. I suppose I could have donated them. Stained and other unusable donations are sold for scraps so the charity could still profit. Still, it just didn't feel right to donate something stained. I didn't want to just throw them away and they were too thin to use as rags so... I figured this way I can save some money and save some trees.

Speaking of which, what do Fundamental Christians, crunchy granola tree huggers, and extreme cheapskates have in common? Family cloths!

(Skip to the 2:20 mark; it's a must watch.)

Michael saw me cutting up his old shirts and asked me what I was doing. I lied and told him that I was making "family cloths". He asked what that was and when I explained to him that family cloth are reusable toilet paper the expression on his face was hilarious.

The idea of family cloth doesn't seem odd to me (been reading too many Fundamental Christian, chrunchy granola tree hugger, and extreme cheapskate blogs, I guess) but the practice of family cloths seem... odd...

Never say never, I guess, but... I think I can safely say that I would never use reusable toilet paper. If I want to be more earth friendly I'll go with the unbleached, made with recycled paper kind. If I want to be more frugal I'll just go with the super cheap scratchy kind. If I ever live off the grid then Armageddon has clearly happened, in which case, I think toilet paper will be the least of my concern. So, to amend  my original statement, if the world was amidst Armageddon, then I will use reusable toilet paper.

But, you know, I'm really glad that other people out there are using reusable toilet paper. Regular toilet paper are bad for the environment and I am all for other people taking drastic measures to help our environment. I'll do  my part with my reusable cloth napkins.

Skylar Mismate

So I have a slight obsession with oxfords- wingtips, cap toes, saddles, LOVE them all. Recently, I ordered a pair of cute summer oxfords:

It looks amazing but was totally bummed to discover that they're too big. I'm starting to think I'm actually a size 4.5 vs a 5. I'm used to wearing slightly too big shoes but heels completely slip out when I walk.

But, maybe it's a sign that I should have ordered this one all along...

Kind of weird? Kind of cool? I'm not too sure what to make of it. What would I wear with it? How often would I wear it? Would I still want to wear it like five years from now? I don't know... Something to think about... But how often do you see shoes like these, right?
