Just Chillaxing in My Greige Room During My Staycation

I am not a fan of made up words but I have to admit, they're handy. For example, I think "staycation" is really goofy word but you know exactly what it is. Instead of saying, "Oh, I'm going to take some time off to stay home and just relax, maybe catch up on some errands or projects," you can now just say, "I'm taking a staycation." Language is always evolving and most words were hybrid made up words at some point, right? Still, words like "recessionista" send unpleasant chills down my back.

One hybrid word I do like is "greige". Greige, you know exactly what that is, it's like a grayish beige. Some might call it taupe, and I guess it kind of is taupe, but how many people really know what taupe is? If I told Michael I wanted to paint the walls taupe he would have no idea what I was talking about. If I told him that I wanted to paint it greige. Well, greige just sounds like what it would look like. I don't intend on painting the walls greige but greige is the perfect fall neutral color.

Let me introduce you to my greige wedge.


The color is beautiful and it goes with everything. It's my new favorite shoes. Sometimes, beige like/nude colors are too brown for cool colors and too fleshy for darker colors. Sometimes gray shoes are too cool for the more earthy, brownish colors. Greige goes well with every color.

Just did a google search and it appears that "greige" is a hipster made up word and an already existing word meaning unfinished fabric. Interesting.
